PM Modi defends participation in Ganesh Puja at CJI’s home, slams Opposition
He also condemned the "divisive mindset" of those criticising the event, suggesting that their opposition reflects an agenda to fragment society
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has addressed criticism regarding his participation in a Ganesh Puja hosted by Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, in New Delhi for Ganesh Chaturthi.
Responding to the backlash, PM Modi targeted the Congress and its supporters, accusing them of being "power-hungry" and opposed to cultural traditions.
During a rally in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday (September 17), Modi remarked that even during the British colonial period, the authorities that employed divide-and-rule tactics were against the Ganesh Utsav.
He drew a parallel to today’s political climate, claiming that certain factions, including Congress, are disturbed by his participation in the festival.
'Divisive mindset'
According to Modi, Ganesh Utsav is more than a religious celebration; it was instrumental in uniting people during India’s independence movement.
The prime minister also condemned the "divisive mindset" of those criticising the event, suggesting that their opposition reflects an agenda to fragment society.
He called on the public to resist such forces, asserting that their disapproval of Ganesh Puja is a symptom of a larger attempt to create discord in the country.
Modi's remarks come as the Opposition leaders raised questions about his participation in a religious ceremony with the head of the judiciary.
