Hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi again pushed for simultaneous elections, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge came down strongly on the concept stating that it was “impossible” to implement.
“For ‘One Nation, One Election,' the prime minister will have to take everybody into confidence in Parliament, and that is impossible,” Kharge asserted.
“What PM Modi has said, he will not do it. Because when it comes in Parliament, he has to take everybody into confidence, then only this will happen,” Kharge said.
“This is impossible. ‘One Nation, One Election’ is impossible,” he added.

Modi for simultaneous polls
Earlier in the day, PM Modi had said at Kevadia in Gujarat that the country was “now working towards One Nation, One Election”.
This, he said, “will strengthen India's great democracy, give optimum outcome of India's resources… The country will gain fresh momentum in our dream of achieving a developed India."

“Today, India is moving towards One Nation, One Civil Code that is a secular civil code,” he said.
Last month, the Union cabinet approved former president Ramnath Kovind committee's report to pave the way to make simultaneous general and state elections a reality. This proposes simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, with urban body and panchayat polls to be held within 100 days.
