FIR against four influencers over E20 posts targeting Gadkari
Nagpur Cyber Police lodged an FIR against four influencers for allegedly spreading misinformation on E20 petrol and defaming Nitin Gadkari
Amid the row over E20 petrol, a case has been registered against four social media influencers, including prominent YouTuber Manish Kashyap, for allegedly spreading misinformation regarding the fuel blend in a bid to defame Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari by linking his name to alleged fraud without evidence.
An FIR has been lodged in this regard by the Nagpur City Cyber Police based on the complaint filed by Shishir Tripathi, president of the BJP's social media cell in Nagpur. Besides Kashyap, the accused include Instagram handle Desi Boys (desi_boysncr), Harshit Rathi and Anklesh Invate, reported India Today.
FIR against influencers
The complaint stated that the four influencers uploaded videos on platforms such as YouTube and Instagram, claiming that large-scale fraud and bogus transactions were taking place in connection with ethanol use.

The videos allegedly suggested that laws were being violated under the guise of the Centre's ethanol policy while misleadingly portraying Gadkari's initiatives.
Misinformation allegations
The complaint further alleged that the influencers used fake or misleading interviews with ordinary citizens to make the content appear credible, with the intention of maligning Gadkari's political and public image. It also accused them of using the Union Minister's name solely to attract views and followers while spreading misinformation capable of disturbing social harmony.

The report further stated that according to the FIR, Kashyap uploaded a video on YouTube on July 3 which allegedly contained "misinformation" intended to create public misunderstanding about E20 fuel and damage Gadkari's reputation.
Tripathi further alleged that the remaining three influencers used abusive language against the minister in videos related to ethanol-blended petrol with the intent to spread false information, disturb public order and defame him.
Police cite ‘baseless’ claims
An official said the Cyber Cell's preliminary investigation found that the allegations circulated by the influencers were completely baseless.

The videos allegedly sensationalised and endorsed illegal acts despite Gadkari having no connection with the alleged fraud cases or incidents referred to in the content, reported NDTV. Police have reportedly invoked Sections 356, 352 and 296 of the BNS, along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.
Probe into wider conspiracy
The FIR comes amid an ongoing debate over the Centre's push for E20 fuel. While Gadkari has consistently promoted ethanol blending as a way to reduce crude oil imports, lower emissions, and boost farmers' income, critics have questioned its impact on fuel efficiency and older vehicles.
The government, however, maintains that E20 fuel is safe for compatible vehicles and remains a key part of India's energy-transition strategy. Meanwhile, police have launched a technical investigation to trace the origin of the videos and examine whether a larger conspiracy was involved.
