Two British nationals told to leave India for pasting political stickers in Pushkar
The Rajasthan Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has issued "leave India" notices to two British nationals for allegedly pasting political stickers in public places in Pushkar, officials said on Monday (February 2).
The stickers contained messages such as “Free Palestine, Boycott Israel”.
The action came after reports received on January 21 about stickers related to the Israel-Palestine conflict appearing at multiple locations across the town. A CID team conducted an inquiry and traced the activity to the two foreign tourists.
Police said the two were in India on tourist visas. The CID found that their actions amounted to a violation of visa conditions, which prohibit engagement in political activities. Additional Superintendent of Police (CID) Rajesh Meena said that engaging in activities that show disrespect towards other countries while staying in India breaches visa norms. He said the notices were issued under provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, directing the two to leave the country.
Pushkar attracts a large number of foreign tourists every year, including many from Israel.
The officials said no formal complaints were received from tourists in connection with the stickers. After the CID's intervention, the stickers were removed from public places. Police also conducted checks in areas frequented by foreign tourists to ensure no similar material was displayed, they added.

Gems and jewellery stocks rallied sharply on Tuesday after India and the United States agreed to a trade deal that lowers Washington’s reciprocal tariff on Indian goods from 25 per cent to 18 per cent, boosting market sentiment across export-oriented sectors.
Shares of Goldiam International and Vaibhav Global surged 20 per cent each, while Kalyan Jewellers India rose 7.61 per cent and Senco Gold gained 7.41 per cent on the BSE, reflecting strong investor optimism.
Other jewellery stocks also advanced, with Shringar House of Mangalsutra climbing 6.61 per cent, P N Gadgil Jewellers up 6.25 per cent, PC Jeweller gaining 5 per cent, and Titan rising 4.68 per cent.

Market experts said the tariff reduction removed a major overhang on export-driven sectors. The announcement, made by US President Donald Trump after a phone conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is seen as particularly significant for labour-intensive industries such as textiles, apparel, leather, marine products, and gems and jewellery, which had been under pressure due to higher tariffs.

UDF Disrupts Kerala Assembly Over Alleged CM Office Interference in Sabarimala Gold Probe
The Congress-led UDF on Tuesday disrupted proceedings in the Kerala Assembly, alleging interference by the Chief Minister’s Office in the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the Sabarimala gold loss cases, and declared it would no longer cooperate with the House.
Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan informed Speaker A N Shamseer that the SIT probe was being stalled, allowing accused persons to secure statutory bail. He claimed that pressure from the CM’s Office had weakened the investigation and warned that prime accused Unnikrishnan Potty and three CPI(M) leaders arrested in the case would soon be released.
The protest escalated during Question Hour when Congress MLA Anwar Sadath attempted to climb the Speaker’s dais, prompting the Speaker to adjourn the House briefly. After proceedings resumed, Law Minister P Rajeev accused the opposition of trying to derail the probe and claimed the UDF knew who was responsible for the theft of gold from the Sabarimala shrine.
Further chaos ensued as opposition MLAs held placards accusing CPI(M) leaders of protecting the accused and stealing Lord Ayyappa’s gold. Watch-and-ward staff intervened to remove banners and restrain MLAs attempting to approach the dais, leading to another brief adjournment amid protests and counter-allegations.
The protest followed a vigilance court granting statutory bail to former Travancore Devaswom Board executive officer D Sudheesh Kumar, while other officials and accused have already secured similar relief. The cases involve the alleged loss of gold from the Dwarapalaka idol plates and the gold cladding of the Sreekovil doorframes, with the SIT having made 12 arrests so far.

Rule 349 allows quoting only if relevant to House business: Expert on Rahul Gandhi citing from memoir
Amid a controversy over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi quoting from an unpublished "memoir" of former Army chief M M Naravane in Parliament, an expert on Parliamentary procedures on Tuesday (February 3) said Rule 349 bars members from reading from any book, newspaper or letter except in connection with the business of the House.
However, the Rule does not elaborate about published or unpublished.
The Lok Sabha on Monday (February 2) saw a stand-off between Speaker Om Birla and Gandhi when the Speaker disallowed the Leader of Opposition to quote from the unpublished memoir of the former army chief on the 2020 India-China conflict citing a House rule.
Speaker Birla cited Rule 349 to disallow Gandhi from quoting from the retired general's unpublished memoir. "Rules to be observed by members in House" falls under Rule 349. The rule has 23 sub clauses dealing with a variety of issues.
Sub clause one deals with members quoting from documents. "Whilst the House is sitting, a member (i) shall not read any book, newspaper or letter except in connection with the business of the House," it reads.
"It also means that a member can refer to any of these if it is in connection with the business of the House," former Lok Sabha secretary general P D T Achary told PTI. He said while the rule is "negatively framed", it has a "positive meaning" also which allows members to quote from document if they are relevant to the business of the House.
He underlined that though it is not in the rule, speakers have ruled in the past that members who want to quote something in the House should authenticate it. "He or she has to mention that they stand by it and also verify the content of the document being quoted," the constitution expert said.
