ED raids on Sanjay Singh: Kejriwal says such actions will rise as polls near

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has slammed the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) raids on AAP leader Sanjay Singh's residence, alleging it shows the BJP's desperation ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Kejriwal, during his visit to the Okhla landfill site on Wednesday (September 4) said these actions would intensify as elections approach and reassured that the party wasn't fearful of such tactics.

'Raids will increase'

The chief minister said such raids will only increase as the election nears. "ED, CBI, I-T and police – all the agencies will become active as the elections come closer. Yesterday, it was journalists and today, it is Sanjay Singh. Many such raids will happen. But there is no need to be scared," he added.

"They have been probing the alleged liquor scam for the last year but nothing has been found yet. Nothing will be found at Sanjay Singh's residence. When someone is staring at defeat, they resort to desperate measures. That is what is happening right now," Kejriwal told reporters.

On the Supreme Court hearing his former deputy Manish Sisodia's bail plea, Kejriwal said, "The blessings of children are with him. We hope he will get justice from the Supreme Court today."

The ED had conducted these raids in connection with a money laundering case linked to Delhi's excise policy, covering the premises of individuals associated with the case.

'Kejriwal kingpin'

In response, the BJP accused Kejriwal of being the "kingpin" of an alleged liquor policy scam, claiming that an accused had confessed to paying a bribe of Rs 32 lakh to Kejriwal via cheque.

BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia demanded Kejriwal clarify the accusations and said that legal consequences were approaching.

The political exchange highlighted the intensity and tension between the rival parties in the run-up to the elections.
