CJP’s X account blocked: Ex-Kerala CM Pinarayi slams Centre, asks ‘why is BJP so afraid?’
Pinarayi Vijayan said the action reflects intolerance towards democratic dissent and also reveals concern over whether the platform could grow into a larger political protest movement
Calling it a sharp political response against a system marked by unemployment, inequality and exploitation, former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday (May 23) criticised the Union government’s move to block the X account of satirical online platform Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
In a statement, Vijayan said the action reflects intolerance towards democratic dissent and also reveals concern over whether the platform could grow into a larger political protest movement. He questioned, "Why is the BJP so afraid?”.

He noted that the platform quickly gained more public attention and acceptance than the BJP’s own official propaganda channels. The strong response from youth, especially those facing unemployment and neglect, reflects deep dissatisfaction with the current socio-political situation, he said.
Vijayan added that the protest against being labelled as “cockroaches” should not be seen as a mere reactive outburst. It represents a strong political expression against a system shaped by inequality, joblessness and exploitation. The fear of this sentiment spreading further is what is pushing the Centre towards suppressing democratic voices, he said.
He stated that while disagreement with any political idea or form of protest is natural, using laws or administrative measures to silence a youth movement exercising constitutionally guaranteed freedoms of expression and association goes against the spirit of democracy and constitutional values.
The Leader of the Opposition in Kerala strongly condemned the move and called upon all those who believe in democracy and freedom of expression to protest against it.
