‘Don’t make me a hero, country ruined by making one person a hero’: Dipke after Pradhan quits

Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), on Saturday (July 25) urged the people not to make him a hero as he reacted to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation.

As he spoke from a stage in New Delhi with fellow protesters cheering around him, the US-returned youth leader said, "I want to say something very important. Don't make me a hero because Dharmendra Pradhan resigned today. Don't make this mistake. Don't make me a hero because of Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation. The country has been ruined because of making one person a hero..."

'They think they are kings'

Dipke also said Pradhan's stepping down showed that if people decide against bowing down before the Narendra Modi government, they can take the "resignation of anyone". He asked people to raise their voice, which he said would keep the rulers "in line". "It is very important to keep these people in line. Today, they consider themselves as kings while they are there because of us," Dipke said.

However, he cautioned that there was no room for complacency yet since the CJP has presented two more demands to the government, including compensation of Rs 1 crore each for the families of students who committed suicide in the wake of the NEET examination paper leak in May.

"There's no need to be afraid. This is democracy. He has resigned, but we have two more demands. We won't go like this. Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned. But the families of the children who committed suicide should receive compensation of one crore rupees. They should get it. One crore rupees compensation to all those families. And second, these police goons who acted on the 20th (July). Action must be taken against the police officers for that. Remember, do not mess with cockroaches...," he said in New Delhi as the protesters cheered and celebrated.

"Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned. And this resignation is proof that if you people are not afraid, if you people do not bow down to this government, then we can take the resignation of anyone."

'Don't mess with cockroaches'

Warning the police, Dipke said, "Don't mess with cockroaches." According to him, if the protesters could make a minister resign, the security personnel were "nothing".

"You have charged batons in the name of Amit Shah and Modi, remember that one resignation has already been tendered. All the cases that have been filed against students after July 20 protests must be withdrawn," he said.

"This is how a democracy should be," Dipke added.

The police have been accused of committing brutalities against the protesters when they staged a protest march to Parliament from Jantar Mantar on July 20 over their demands for Pradhan's resignation and comprehensive examination and education reforms. Many students were injured.

The CJP also found backing from the opposition, including the Congress, which remained firm in seeking Pradhan's resignation even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured strict action against the wrongdoers in the exam paper leak.
