‘Foul-mouthed antics’: BJP slams Rahul Gandhi over comedian’s Modi skit
The ruling party criticised the act at Congress’ Indore event, saying Rahul Gandhi’s backing of such performances showed why he had failed to connect with youth
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Sunday (September 20) criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over a recent stage act in which he and a stand-up comedian appeared to mock Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
BJP spokesperson CR Kesavan described the skit as “foul-mouthed antics” by “cheap, vulgar trolls”, saying no decent or right-thinking person would find such a performance amusing.
BJP slams Rahul over skit
The mimicry was performed at the Congress’ ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ event in Indore on Saturday. Stand-up comedian Pulkit Mani joined Rahul on stage and performed what appeared to be an impersonation of PM Modi.
“This uncouth culture endorsed by Rahul Gandhi explains why he has failed to connect or resonate with the youth, as pointed out by his Congress colleague, Mr Shashi Tharoor,” he wrote in a post on X.
Kesavan further said, “Such politics of bitterness and hate, promoted by Rahul Gandhi, is the precise reason why the Congress was routed and blanked out by our youth in the DUSU elections.”
He also wrote, “Rahul Gandhi, who supports such clowns and crude circus shows, lacks both the gravity and gravitas to be taken seriously as a political leader.”
Comedian mimics Modi at event
At Rahul’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ event in Indore, stand-up comedian Pulkit Mani took the stage for a short act.
During this act, the comic mimicked the prime minister's mannerisms and his way of speaking to foreign leaders.
The act also made references to Modi’s foreign policy, his mother and a coin trick the prime minister had performed with children.
The comic also repeatedly used the phrase “my friend”, mimicking Modi’s interactions with foreign leaders. “My friend, how are you?” he said, after which Rahul replied with – “I’m fine, how are you, Modiji?”
