Ahead of Independence Day, PM Modi shares 'Har Ghar Tiranga' message' on Instagram

PM Modi has called on citizens to join the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign ahead of Independence Day, urging every household to hoist the national flag

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (August 11) called on people across the country to turn the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign into a household observance ahead of Independence Day, urging them to display the national flag and mark the occasion with a renewed sense of national pride.

In a video message shared on Instagram, PM Modi appealed to families to make the Tricolour part of their Independence Day celebrations and to remember the sacrifices that secured India’s freedom. He said the campaign should reach every home and inspire citizens to take part in the country’s journey toward the goal of Viksit Bharat.

Call for participation

“Come, let us make #HarGharTiranga a celebration in every home,” Modi said in a post on Instagram while sharing a campaign video.

“Come, let us celebrate August 15 with pride and honour, pay tribute to the freedom fighters, and pledge to build a developed India (Viksit Bharat). The Tricolour in every home, the Tricolour in every household, the Tricolour in every heart. Come, let us hoist the Tricolour at every home,” said PM Modi as quoted by the Hindustan Times.

Independence Day push

The call comes ahead of the 80th Independence Day on August 15. The 2026 edition of Har Ghar Tiranga is being observed throughout August, with citizens encouraged to hoist the national flag at their residences and join community events linked to the nationwide programme.

The campaign was first launched under the Centre’s Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative and has since become an annual feature of Independence Day observances.

Outreach measures

According to reports, the programme seeks to deepen public participation in national celebrations by bringing the Tricolour into homes rather than limiting flag displays to official buildings and public institutions.

Government outreach this year is reportedly expected to include digital participation drives, local events and public awareness efforts aimed at increasing citizen involvement in the Independence Day celebrations.
