2024 Lok Sabha polls likely to be on April 16, say reports

The tentative date of the Lok Sabha polls is April 16, 2024, as per media reports. In a letter to election officers, the Election Commission has asked its officers to prepare for elections, keeping April 16 as a tentative date.

A circular dispatched by the Office of the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to the 11 District Election Officers (DEOs) has established April 16 as the tentative date. It notes that the commission has tentatively designated that date as the polling day "for the purpose of reference and to calculate start and end dates in the Election Planner."

However, the EC clarified later that the date mentioned (April 16) was only for "reference purposes" and had no bearing on the actual date of the polls.
