The Bloc said it will take appropriate steps at appropriate time to realise the people’s desire not to be ruled by the BJP’s government
Opposition INDIA Bloc leaders began crucial deliberations on Wednesday, exploring the possibilities of government formation and the alliance's future strategy.
After the meeting, the Bloc issued a statement: "The people’s mandate has given a befitting reply to the BJP and their politics of hate, corruption and deprivation. This is a political and moral defeat of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is a mandate in defense of the Constitution of India and against price rise, unemployment and crony capitalism of the Modi Government. The India Bloc will continue to fight against the fascist rule of the BJP led by Modi. We will take appropriate steps at the appropriate time to realise the people’s desire not to be ruled by the BJP’s government."
The leaders met at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's residence in New Delhi. Top Congress leaders, including party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also attended the meeting.
Opposition leaders attending meeting included Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin and T R Baalu of the DMK, Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren and Kalpana Soren of the JMM, Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule of the NCP-SP, Akhilesh Yadav and Ram Gopal Yadav (SP), Abhishek Banerjee (TMC), Tejashwi Yadav (RJD), Sanjay Raut and Arvind Sawant (Shiv Sena-UBT), Omar Abdullah (JKNC), Sitaram Yechury (CPI-M), D Raja (CPI), Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha (AAP) and N K Premchandran (RSP).

Just coincidence: JD(U) leader on Nitish-Tejashwi photos
"My leader has a meeting to attend, there is NDA meeting today and he (Tejashwi Yadav) also has a meeting to attend. If they went on the same flight, it is just a coincidence. There is nothing else,” said JD(U) minister MD Zama Khan when asked if Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was planning to join the INDIA bloc.

No discussion within INDIA bloc yet on reaching out to TDP, JDU: Pawar
NCP(SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday said there has been no discussion within the INDIA bloc yet on reaching out to the TDP or JD(U) to shore up the numbers of the alliance for government formation.
His remarks came ahead of the meeting of INDIA bloc leaders at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's residence this evening to deliberate on the Lok Sabha poll results and whether to bring on board the Janata Dal (United) (JD-U) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to cobble up a government.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to form the government for a third consecutive term with the BJP-led NDA getting a majority in the Lok Sabha, notwithstanding crushing losses in three Hindi heartland states after a bitterly fought election that was projected as a referendum on his popularity.
While speaking on the Lok Sabha poll outcome, the 83-year-old Pawar told reporters here that besides the resentment against the functioning of the Modi government, the voters were also unhappy about handling of issues such as rising prices, farmers' distress and growing unemployment.
Asked about reaching out to the TDP or JD(U) to shore up numbers for the INDIA bloc, Pawar said there was no such discussion within the bloc as yet.
"We have not spoken about this yet," he said.
He said the alliance leaders were meeting on Wednesday and will take collective decisions.
"I have no personal opinion. Whatever we decide, will be a collective decision," Pawar said.
The former Union minister is expected to play a crucial role in deciding the future course or action of the opposition alliance.
His party NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) contested 10 out of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra and won eight.

From BJP's B-teams, they have become 'has-been teams': Cong's dig at BJD, YSRCP
The Congress on Wednesday took a swipe at the BJD and YSRCP after they suffered crushing defeats in the assembly and Lok Sabha polls, saying that from the BJP's "B-teams" they have become the "has-been" teams.
The BJP on Tuesday stormed to power in Odisha by dethroning the BJD which has been in power for the last 24 years. The BJD drew a blank in the Lok Sabha polls.
The Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP suffered a crushing defeat in the assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh at the hands of the Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP in the assembly polls. The YSRCP secured just four seats in the Lok Sabha polls.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said, "Over the past ten years, the BJD was the B-team of the BJP in Parliament. It supported Mr. Modi on every issue." "Over the past ten years, YSRCP was another B-team of the BJP, which supported Mr. Modi on every issue. From B-teams, they have become the has-been teams," Ramesh said.
