Asian Games Live: Neeraj bags gold in Javelin, Jena gets silver

India's total medal tally now stands at 81, including 18 gold, 31 silver, and 32 bronze.


In a stunning display, Neeraj Chopra retained his Asian Games Gold medal with an exceptional throw of 88.88 meters, while Kishore Jena clinched the Silver with a strong throw of 87.54 meters in Hangzhou, China on Wednesday (October 4).

India's Sunil Kumar secured the Greco-Roman 87kg bronze medal at the Asian Games 2023 by defeating Kyrgyzstan's Atabek Azisbekov with a score of 2-1.

Lovlina Borgohain claimed the silver medal in the women's 75kg final at the Asian Games 2023. Despite being a former Asian champion, the 26-year-old Lovlina fell short of winning the title, losing 5:0 on points to China's Li Qian. She was penalized for holding in the second round of the final match.

Earlier, Indian badminton star PV Sindhu displayed her prowess by defeating Indonesian shuttler Putri Kusuma Wardani with a scoreline of 21-16, 21-16 in the women's singles round of 16 at the Asian Games 2023.

In the men's singles round of 16, HS Prannoy also emerged victorious, securing a 21-12, 21-13 win against Kazakhstan's Dmitriy Panarin.

Meanwhile Indian archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Deotale secured a narrow victory of 159-158 against South Korea's So Chaewon and Joo Jaehoon in the mixed team compound archery gold medal contest. This victory marked India's second-ever gold medal in archery at the Asian Games, and it contributed to the nation achieving its highest medal tally at the event.

The Indian duo scored a perfect 40 in all ends except the third. On the other hand, the Korean team faced challenges in the first and fourth ends.

Also, Indian athletes Manju Rani and Ram Baboo clinched the bronze medal in the 35km race walk mixed team event at the Asian Games 2023, finishing with a combined time of 5:51:14.

Seven-time champions India thrashed Thailand 63-26 in a Group A match of the men's kabaddi competition at the Asian Games here on Wednesday.

The women's side also recorded a 56-23 win over South Korea in their second Group A game.

India has so far secured a total of 81 medals, with 18 gold, 31 silver and 32 bronze medals.

This betters India's 2018 Jakarta Asian Games record of 70 medals.

    Kabaddi: Indian men's team thrash Thailand

    The Indian men's kabaddi team beat Thailand 63-26 in their second Group A match at the Asian Games 2023, taking the top spot in the standings.

    The seven-time champions India continued its attacking form from their win against Bangladesh in their campaign opener on Tuesday. The Indian raiders scored nine bonus points, while the defenders also inflicted four all-outs and made a super tackle on the Thai raiders.
