India’s Arjun Singh and Sunil Singh Salam clinched a historic bronze medal in men’s canoe double 1000m event
A day after clinching a silver medal in steeplechase, Parul Chaudhary on Tuesday (October 3) won India its 14th gold medal in the Asian Games 2023 with her sensational triumph in 5000m race.
In a stunning late burst, Parul came through in the last 30 meters to overtake her Japanese rival Hironaka to win the gold for the country.
Similarly, India's Annu Rani made history on Tuesday as she clinched the gold medal for the country in the women’s javelin throw final at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Rani finished in top with her season's best throw of 62.92 metres. She is the first Indian woman to win a gold in javelin at the Asian Games. Rani’s maiden gold is India’s 15th at these continental Games in China.
India currently occupies the fourth position on the medals tally with 15 gold, 26 silver and 28 bronze.
Earlier, Indian boxer Preeti Pawar faced a tough challenge in the women's 54kg semi-final at the Asian Games 2023, losing 5:0 on points to the defending champion Chang Yuan of China on Tuesday (October 3). Despite her commendable efforts, Pawar settled for a bronze medal, making it India's second boxing bronze at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
Star Indian shuttlers HS Prannoy and PV Sindhu progressed to the men’s and women’s singles pre-quarterfinals with straight-game wins over their respective opponents in badminton.
In archery, Jyothi Surekha Vennam used all her experience to prevail over her teammate Aditi Swami to advance to the women’s compound individual final.
In men’s cricket, Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed a blazing hundred to defeat Nepal in the quarterfinal. India also stormed into the semifinals of women’s hockey with a 13-0 drubbing of Hong Kong in their final pool match.

Men’s Archery: Abhishek Verma, Ojas Deotale enter last-four stage
In the men's compound individual section, India also assured themselves at least a bronze medal after Abhishek Verma and Ojas Deotale entered the last-four stages.
Former 2014 silver medalist Verma overcame a late challenge from Tyutyun and won in an intense shoot-off to make the semifinal.
Current world champion Deotale, on the other hand, shot an incredible 150 out of 150 to breeze past Akbarali Karbayev of Kazakhstan.
The duo find themselves in the opposite end and head for a possible final clash, should they get past their respective semifinal hurdles.
Fourth seed Verma will take on South Korean top seed Joe Jaehoon later in the day.
Third-seeded Deotale will face seventh seeded Yang Jaewon of South Korea.

Women’s Archery: Aditi Swami and Jyothi Surekha Vennam to face each other in semifinal
Reigning world champion Aditi Swami and top seed Jyothi Surekha Vennam eased past their respective quarterfinal rivals to set up a semifinal clash against each other in the women's compound individual event and assure India of at least a silver medal in archery at the Asian Games on Tuesday (October 3).
Aditi, who is seeded fourth, dropped just one point from 15 arrows to eliminate Amaya Amparo Cojuangco of Phillipines 149-146 in the quarterfinals.
Multiple World Cup medallist Jyothi ousted ninth seed Adel Zhexenbinova of Kazakhstan 147-144 in another last-eight round match.
Overall, the Indian archers are in medal hunt in eight events, including two in individual sections.
The duo are now headed for their second semifinal clash in two months.
Aditi, who considers the seasoned Jyothi as her idol, had ousted the latter 145-149 en route to becoming senior world champion at Berlin in August this year.

Men’s Sepaktakraw quadrant: India crashes out
The Indian men produced a good effort but it was not sufficient to go past South Korea, and crashed out of the Sepaktakraw quadrant event at the Asian Games on Tuesday (October 3).
In their final group stage clash, India lost 1-2 to Korea, and thus also failed to remain in contention for a semifinal berth.
The Indians finished third in Group B, while Japan and the Philippines entered the semis from this group, while Indonesia and Myanmar progressed to the last four from Group A.
India had lost their opening meeting with Japan (0-2) before winning its subsequent games against Singapore (2-0) and the Philippines (2-0).
India have managed to win only a bronze at the Asian Games till date, and it came in the regu event during the previous edition at Jakarta in 2018.

Men's Kabaddi: India begin campaign with emphatic win over Bangladesh
The Indian men's kabaddi team, who are a record seven-time champions, began their campaign with an emphatic 55-18 win over Bangladesh in a group fixture at the Asian Games on Tuesday (October 3).
In their bid to regain the Asian Games gold medal, the Indians, who slipped to a bronze at the 2018 edition, took a 24-9 lead at the half-time.
Naveen Kumar Goyat and Arjun Deshwal spearheaded their raids in style to inflict the first all-out in the 12th minute.
Bangladesh managed to inflict two supertackles in the first half on Pawan Sehrawat and then on Goyat but that proved insufficient as India took 12-point lead inside 20 minutes.
Bangladesh faltered in their raids as the Indians extended their lead in the second-half and sealed the issue.
The women's kabaddi team, who were the last edition's silver medallist, endured a disappointing start after being held to an unexpected 34-34 draw by Chinese Taipei on Monday.
In the men's event India find themselves clubbed with Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei, Thailand and Japan in Group A.
Iran, Korea, Pakistan and Malaysia form Group B.
