UAE alleges Iran launched two ballistic missiles into its territory, severs trade ties

UAE defence ministry says it remains on high alert and fully prepared to address any threats, and respond firmly to any attempt to undermine the security of the country


The United Arab Emirates (UAE), which has accused Iran of firing two ballistic missiles towards the country, has suspended all trade and financial dealings with Tehran.

‘UAE on alert, ready to counter attacks’

In a post on X on Tuesday, the Ministry of Defence of the UAE said that one of the missiles, launched from Iran, fell outside the country’s territorial waters while the second fell inside it.

The ministry said it remains alert in the wake of the attack and is ready to “respond firmly” to counter future threats.

“The Ministry of Defence affirms that it remains on high alert and fully prepared to address any threats, and to respond firmly to any attempt aiming to undermine the security of the UAE, in a manner that safeguards its sovereignty, security and stability, and protects its interests and national capabilities,” it said in its statement.

UAE suspends trade with Iran

In the wake of the attacks, the UAE announced that it is suspending all trade and financial businesses with Iran.

“In light of regional escalations…all trade, commercial exchanges, and financial transactions with Iran have been halted until further notice,” reports quoted UAE’s foreign ministry communications director Afra Al Hameli as saying.

This is the first such attack in weeks following Iran’s repeated targeting of UAE with missiles and drones after the US and Israel launched a war against it on February 28.
