Ahead of Eid-al-Adha, ‘Trump’ and ‘Netanyahu’ go viral in Bangladesh

While the albino buffalo does not match the US President in aggression, the heavier ‘Netanyahu’ reportedly has a habit of snorting and charging at its handlers

Pink skin and a tuft of pale golden hair on the forehead—the resemblance is uncanny, think the people of Bangladesh. And hence, “Donald Trump” is making waves in Narayanganj too, some 30 km from Dhaka. Just that this “Donald Trump” is a four-legged bovine that is set to meet its end on Eid-el-Adha towards the end of this month.

The animal in question is an albino buffalo, which its owners say, does not match the US President in aggression. “It is very docile,” the buffalo’s owners can be heard saying in videos that have gone viral. “Just that its looks are very similar to Trump’s,” they say, tongue firmly in cheek.

“Trump” is not alone. There is a “Netanyahu” also, bigger in size and more aggressive. And to match the political heft of the humans they have been named after, both are heavyweights in their own right. While “Trump” weighs 700 kg, Netanyahu is heavier by another 50 kg, thanks to nutritious diet of corn, soybean, and bran.

The aggressive ‘Netanyahu’

“Netanyahu”, named after the Israeli Prime Minister, reportedly has a habit of snorting and charging at its handlers and can be much more unpredictable than the meek “Trump”. This Eid season, both have gone viral in Narayanganj’s Paikpara, with people crowding the farm for selfies and reels.

Farm owner Ziauddin Mridha told the local media that they bought “Trump” from a cattle market in Rajshahi, a city near the India border, around 10 months ago. “My younger brother took a look at its hair and jokingly named it Donald Trump,” he can be heard saying in videos. “Albino buffaloes are generally docile, unless provoked.”

While it’s not clear what’s in store for “Netanyahu”, “Trump” has reportedly already been sold for sacrifice on Bakri Eid.
