What if you woke up from a hangover and found yourself at a gravity-defying spot inside Paris' most celebrated landmark - the Eiffel Tower?

In a scene straight out of a Hollywood movie, two spirited American adventurers fully tanked up with alcohol managed to elude Eiffel Tower security and ended up spending a night in an area in the Eiffel Tower not generally open to the public. The duo decided the best way to admire the Parisian night sky was from the top of the Iron Lady, making themselves cozy under the stars for an unconventional slumber party. But they were so drunk that they were unable to make their way down.

The next morning their secret soirée was dramatically discovered by vigilant guards during their pre-opening check at 9 am.

It all started on Sunday (August 13) at 10.40 pm, when the two intrepid Americans armed with tickets embarked on a covert 'mission impossible' to explore parts of the Eiffel Tower which is shut off to the public. Somehow, they managed to elude the watchful eyes of the security (in a way that would make Houdini proud), while descending from the iconic structure. However, in the cold light of day, their escapade had a rude ending.

Security guards swooped in on them and they were promptly escorted to the nearest police station. As a result of this unusual break-in, eager visitors in the morning had to wait for an hour before the Eiffer Tower opened to tourists. The Eiffel Tower management was already having to deal with two bomb threats on Saturday, however, they found this duo harmless.

Paris prosecutors told the media that the two Americans however “appear to have got stuck because of how drunk they were”. For the inebriated duo had woken up the next morning to find themselves at a dangerous spot between the 1,080 feet tower's second and third levels and had to be rescued by a firefighting team. This is one night out in the city of romance these American tourists will not forget in a hurry.
