‘Drowning’: Emergency call from Matthew Perry’s house gives more details on death
While police are still probing what caused the Friends actor’s death, an emergency call has revealed that he may have drowned in a jacuzzi
While the death of Friends actor Matthew Perry is still shrouded in mystery, an emergency 911 call, reportedly made from his residence by his assistant, reporting his ‘drowning’, has brought to light more details about the nature of his demise.
The 54-year-old actor, famous for playing Chandler Bing on popular sitcom Friends, was found unconscious in a jacuzzi at his Los Angeles home on Saturday (October 28). While the first responders were unable to revive him, he was declared dead later.
While a great chunk of the 16-minute dispatch audio, accessed by TMZ, has been beeped out, a man can be heard uttering the word “drowning”.
“Agent 23. Rescue 23. EMS 9 on the radio. In response to the drowning,” a voice says in the clip.
‘Rescue 23’ is understood to be a reference to the local fire station.
The call was reportedly made at 4 pm local time. While no drugs were found at the scene, police do not suspect any foul play in the actor’s death.
Death’s cause still unknown, autopsy inconclusive
While investigation is still underway to ascertain the exact cause behind the actor’s death, post-mortem reports have been inconclusive.
The Los Angeles Medical County Examiner who released the post-mortem report on Sunday, said that “additional investigation” including toxicology tests are pending to determine the exact cause and manner of the death.
As per the Los Angeles coroner’s guidelines, in cases where post-mortem is unable to determine the cause of the death, a “deferred” certificate is issued until a final report is out.
'Heartbroken': Perry's family issues statement
Meanwhile, Perry’s family in a statement has said that his death has left them devastated.
“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother. Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend,” the statement said.
“You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”
Perry’s parents John Bennett Perry and Suzanne Morrison and his stepfather Keith Morrison visited his residence after getting the news of his death.
The actor had a long battle with addiction and shared his story with the world on October 22. He said that he almost died at the age of 49 due to his increasing addiction and was in coma for two weeks. After this, he was hospitalised for over five months and had to use a colostomy bag for a year as his colon burst from opioid overuse.
