Remembering Matthew Perry: 10 famous one-liners of Chandler Bing

Could it GET more hilarious?

He was the defining comic voice of the hugely successful Gen X sitcom. Matthew Perry's snarky, carefully modulated one-liners became an essential part of the series, as it acted as a foil to the sentimentality in Friends.

His delivery elevates a smartass quip to another level. Perry's comedy and his sarcasm made him a memorable character in the ensemble. His one-liners such as 'I am not great with advice, can I interest you in a sarcastic comment? Some cheese?' are remembered and quoted often.

Perry, along with his castmates Courteney Cox (Monica), Jennifer Aniston (Rachel), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe), Matt Leblanc (Joey) and Matthew Schwimmer (Ross), became stars overnight when Friends premiered in 1994. Even now, Chandler Bing’s quotes are still favourites with fans.

Here are ten memorable one-liners from Perry's much-loved character on Friends - Chandler Bing.

"Until the age of 25, I thought the only response to 'I love you' was 'oh cr*p!"

Before dating Monica, Chandler had bad luck with relationships. Once when Chandler helps Joey deal with the rejection he received from Rachel, Joey tells Chandler that he doesn't know what rejection feels like.

Chandler fires back: "Until the age of 25, I thought the only response to 'I love you' was 'oh cr*p!'".The joke perfectly sums up Chandler's love life until he began dating Monica.

"I say more dumb things before 9 A.M. than most people say all day!"

Season 4 features Rachel throwing a fake party for Ross and Emily to impress her prospective boyfriend Joshua. As a pregnant Phoebe knocks over some cereal, Chandler calls her a "cereal killer." Monica takes him to task for this bad joke and Chandler simply responds: "I say more dumb things before 9 A.M. than most people say all day!"

"Was that place...the sun?"

In season 10, Ross tries to get a tan but ends up dabbing on layers of tan on his front completely ignoring. An angry Ross complains to Monica and Chandler that he went to the tanning place Monica had suggested. To which, Chandler responds:

"Was that place...the sun?"

"And yet, I never run into Beyonce!"

Chandler had a significant relationship in Friends with Janice, who was not liked by the others in the group. Towards the end of the series, when Monica and Chandler are buying a house, they are surprised to see Janice as a prospective neighbour.

When Janice comments that it's a small world, Chandler replies dryly: "And yet, I never run into Beyonce!

"Hi, I'm Chandler, and I make jokes when I'm uncomfortable"

This was considered to be one of his most famous jokes. In season 6, Monica and Chandler run into her ex-boyfriend, Richard (Tom Selleck), and his date on the same night that Chandler plans to propose to Monica.

During the conversation, Richard says that he grew his mustache back, to which, Chandler jokes that his date does not have one. There is an awkward silence and Chandler covers it up by saying with a slice of self-deprecating humour: "Hi I'm Chandler, and I make jokes when I'm uncomfortable.

"Oh, no. Two women love me. They’re both gorgeous, my wallet is too small for my 50s, and my diamond shoes are too tight"

When Ross is caught between having to choose between Julie and Rachel, Chandler, who has not had much success with love, is unsympathetic. Ross: “What am I gonna do? This is a complete nightmare.”

Chandler: “I know. This must be so hard. “Oh, no. Two women love me. They’re both gorgeous, my wallet is too small for my 50s, and my diamond shoes are too tight.”

He cannot feel Ross' pain and mocks him for having two girls like that love him.

"I'm sorry, we don't have your sheep"

In the season 2 finale, when Rachel walks into Chandler and Joey's apartment togged up in pink from head to toe with a puffy skirt and hat to match the dress, he hits her with this line: 'I'm sorry, we don't have your sheep." Taking a dig at how she resembled the nursery rhyme character

After watching sad movies and Monica telling a tragic story about him finding a letter from her after her death fails to make him shed a tear, what really gets him? He breaks down when he is told Ross and Rachel are not being able to work things out. That’s what breaks your heart? she asks incredulously.
