BJP leader likely to contest Lok Sabha elections from Tamil Nadu

Tamilisai Soundararajan has resigned as Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant General of Puducherry. Raj Bhavan Puducherry has confirmed the news.

Media reports said she is likely to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Tamil Nadu as a BJP candidate.

She has sent in her resignation to the Rashtrapathi Bhavan. In a press release, the Telangana Raj Bhavan stated, “The Hon'ble Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Dr. Smt. Tamilisai Soundararajan has tendered her resignation with immediate effect. The resignation has been submitted to the Hon'ble President of India.”

In an interview earlier this month in Puducherry, The Federal asked Tamilisai if she would go back to electoral politics and contest the Lok Sabha polls, to which she replied: "It's up to God."

Tamilisai, who had headed the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit till 2019, was appointed as Telangana Governor in September 2019. She was given additional charge as L-G of Puducherry, replacing Kiran Bedi.

Daughter of veteran Congressman Kumari Ananthan, Tamilisai, a doctor by profession, has been with the BJP for over two decades. She contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Thoothukudi but lost to DMK leader Kanimozhi.
