A double World Cup winner, 41-year-old Pathan played 57 ODIs and 22 T20Is for India between 2008 and 2012. He was part of India's World T20-winning squad led by MS Dhoni. He also played in the 2011 World Cup-winning team.

The all-rounder, who hails from Vadodara in Gujarat, retired from cricket in 2021.

"I'm eternally grateful to Smt. @MamataOfficial for welcoming me into the TMC family and trusting me with the responsibility to become people's voice in the Parliament.
