LS polls: Kharge, Rahul hold seat-sharing talks with Kejriwal

The two parties are focusing on forging an alliance in the AAP-ruled Delhi and Punjab, though AAP is keen on having tie-up in more states

In a bid to finalise the seat-sharing arrangement for the Lok Sabha elections, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge is holding a meeting with Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi on Saturday.

Former party president Rahul Gandhi is also present at the meeting that is taking place at Kharge’s residence. The two parties are primarily focusing on forging an alliance in the AAP-ruled Delhi and Punjab. Though a tie-up between the two parties seems likely in Delhi, a large section of Congress leaders in Punjab are dead against having any alliance with the AAP.

Besides Delhi and Punjab, AAP has expressed its desire to expand to other states, including Gujarat, Goa, and Haryana. In response, Congress has agreed to consult with its local state leadership within the next two to three days and provide feedback.

This indicates the readiness of the Congress party to engage in negotiations that can also accommodate the ambitions of AAP.

The likelihood of AAP and Congress participating as INDIA alliance partners in the upcoming elections has increased significantly, especially in Delhi and Gujarat.
