‘Dictatorship, plot to kill my husband’: Sunita Kejriwal at INDIA bloc rally
She claimed that her husband was jailed for working for the people and no charges could be proved against him
Sunita Kejriwal, wife of incarcerated Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Sunday (April 21) accused the BJP-led central government of denying insulin to her husband while alleging that it wants to kill him.
Addressing the INDIA bloc's rally in Ranchi, Sunita said every morsel eaten by Arvind Kejriwal was being monitored through camera. She asserted that the Opposition INDIA bloc will fight against the "dictatorship" of the BJP and win. "They want to kill my husband Arvind Kejriwal. His food is under camera observation; he is denied insulin. My husband is a sugar patient who has been on insulin for 12 years; he needs 50 units of insulin daily," Sunita said at the Ulgulan Nyay Rally in Ranchi.
She claimed that her husband was jailed for working for the people and no charges could be proved against him. “We will fight against dictatorship and win. The gates of jail will break and Arvind Kejriwal and Hemant Soren will come out,” she said.
‘Wants to serve nation’
“They've put Arvind Kejriwal and Hemant Soren in jail. They've put them in jail without them being proven guilty. This is dictatorship. What is the fault of my husband? Is it providing good education, health facilities? Patriotism is in his blood. He is an IIT graduate, he could've gone abroad, but he prioritises patriotism. As IRS, he took leaves to do public service. He has put his life at stake for people. He has no desire for power and he just wants to serve the nation,” she said.
AAP leader Sanjay Singh said when Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks on corruption, it looks like Osama Bin Laden and Gabbar Singh are preaching non-violence.
“Narendra Modi speaks against corruption. He put Hemant Soren, Arvind Kejriwal in jail under false accusations. When he speaks on corruption, it looks as if Osama Bin Laden and Gabbar Singh are preaching non-violence. A Modi washing powder has come which cleans all your corruption,” he said.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said, “The leaders of the BJP are speaking of finishing the Constitution time and again. It is a Constitution written by Baba Saheb Ambedkar, not by some random Baba. No one has the power to change it... In Bihar also, their ministers and candidates are saying constantly that they will finish the Constitution. I want to tell them that the people of the country will finish you.”
Empty chairs for Kejriwal, Soren
Two empty chairs - one each for jailed Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren - were kept on stage at the INDIA bloc rally.
The ‘Ulgulan Nyay Maharally’ was organised mainly by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and a large number of its workers wore Soren masks.
Soren was arrested on the night of January 31 by the ED in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land fraud. The same central agency also arrested Kejriwal on March 21 in connection with a liquor policy scam.
Though chairs for the JMM executive president and AAP supremo were kept empty, their wives Kalpana Soren and Sunita Kejriwal were seated on the dais. They are apparently set for their larger political role following the arrest of their spouses.
The crowd raised slogans like "Jail ka tala tutega, Hemant Soren chhutega” and “Jharkhand Jhukega Nahi”. The workers assembled for the ‘Ulgulan Nyay Maharally’ braving scorching heat as the Jharkhand capital’s temperature was hovering around 40 degrees Celcius.
Besides Kalpana and Sunita, JMM supremo Shibu Soren, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, RJD leader and former Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and others attended the rally in a mega show of strength for the opposition bloc.
A total of 28 political parties are taking part in the rally, which is being held at the Prabhat Tara Ground. Security arrangements have been beefed up with the deployment of additional forces in the capital in view of the rally.
The word 'Ulugulan', which means revolution, was coined during Birsa Munda's fight against the British for the rights of the tribals.
