Bihar: MP Ajay Nishad joins Congress after BJP denies him poll ticket
Sources said Chhedi Paswan, two-term MP from Bihar’s Sasaram constituency, who has also been denied a ticket by the BJP, is also in touch with the Congress
Ajay Nishad, the incumbent BJP MP from Bihar’s Muzaffarpur constituency, joined the Congress on Tuesday (April 2).
The BJP has denied a ticket to Ajay, a two-term Lok Sabha MP from the seat and son of the late Jai Narain Nishad who had won Muzaffarpur four times. Instead, the party has fielded Raj Bhushan Chaudhary Nishad, who had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Muzaffarpur as a candidate of then RJD ally Vikaasheel Insaan Party, but lost to Ajay by a margin of over 4 lakh votes.
“Arrogance of power”
Talking to reporters at the Congress headquarters on Tuesday, Ajay claimed that when he asked the BJP central leadership why he was being denied a ticket despite winning the last Lok Sabha polls by a margin of over 4 lakh votes, he was told “those weren’t your votes... you won by a big margin because of our top leader (Narendra Modi)”.
“Even a death row convict is asked his last wish before he is hanged. You (BJP) denied me a ticket to end my political life and didn’t even tell me why you were doing it. This is their arrogance of power,” Ajay said.
Another switch?
The Congress is likely to field Ajay Nishad as its candidate from Muzaffarpur.
Sources said Chhedi Paswan, two-term MP from Bihar’s Sasaram constituency, who has also been denied a ticket by the BJP this time, is in touch with the Congress leadership as well and may join the party soon.
