The 49-year-old Parag Desai was hospitalised with serious injuries, after he had a fall trying to escape from street dogs outside his house. A week later, he died in an Ahmedabad hospital


Parag Desai, scion of the Gujarat-based ₹1,500 crore Wagh Bakri Tea Group, passed away on Sunday (October 23), a week after he was attacked by stray dogs outside his residence.

The 49-year-old Desai fell outside his residence in Ahmedabad on October 15, while he was trying to escape street dogs which had attacked him, reported Ahmedabad Mirror. He suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Shelby Hospital, where after a day of observation, he was shifted to Zydus Hospital for a surgical procedure.

However, during the course of the treatment, he died due to brain haemorrhage at hospital n Ahmedabad on October 22. He had been on a ventilator for seven days, said reports. His last rites were conducted this morning.

Respected industry voice

Parag Desai, who was the son of Rasesh Desai, managing director of the Wagh Bakri Tea Group, is survived by his wife Vidisha and daughter Parisha. Desai junior, who had over three decades of entrepreneurial experience, had headed the international business, sales and marketing of the Group.

Active in the Confederation of Indian Industry, he was a respected industry voice. He was also known to be a prolific tea taster.

In a social media post, Gujarat Congress chief and Rajya Sabha member Shaktisinh Gohil expressed his condolences over Desai's untimely death.

Announcing the “very sad news” of the death of Parag Desai, director and owner of Wagh Bakri Tea, he said that Desai had a brain haemorrhage following a fall. “May his soul rest in peace. My condolences to the entire Wagh Bakri family across India,” he wrote.
