Indian envoy meets Chairman of PetroChina, discusses global energy issues

The meeting took place in the midst of a deepening Middle East crisis over the US-Iran war and Yemen's Houthis stepping up attacks on Saudi Arabian oil facilities.

Beijing, Nov 3 (PTI) Indian Ambassador to China Vikram Doraiswami on Tuesday met PetroChina International Chairman Wu Junli and discussed global energy issues and the need for predictable and secure energy supplies.

Doraiswami met Wu to follow up on the recent meeting between the Group Chairman of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri, the Indian Embassy said in a post on Tuesday.

"They discussed global energy issues and the need for predictable and secure energy supplies and stable markets," it said.

China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) Chairman Dai Houliang met Puri in New Delhi in September on the sidelines of the BRICS summit and exchanged views on deepening energy cooperation.

The meeting took place in the midst of a deepening Middle East crisis over the US-Iran war and Yemen's Houthis stepping up attacks on Saudi Arabian oil facilities.

China and India are the top two crude oil importers.

Doraiswami also met Xu Xiao, President of the All-China Youth Federation, on October 30.

They discussed ways to strengthen youth engagement and explore avenues to promote greater exchanges and interactions between young people of India and China, the Embassy said. PTI
