IIM Bangalore, Tata Trusts to establish Dorabji Tata School of Undergraduate Studies

Under the agreement, Tata Trusts will support the establishment and initial development of world-class academic infrastructure for the School

Bengaluru, Aug 21 (PTI) IIM Bangalore and Tata Trusts on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the “Indian Institute of Management Bangalore – Dorabji Tata School of Undergraduate Studies”, with the Trusts making a significant philanthropic contribution towards its development.

The MoU was signed by Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata and IIMB Board of Governors Chairperson Dr Devi Shetty in the presence of Tata Trusts CEO Siddharth Sharma and IIMB Director-in-charge Prof U Dinesh Kumar.

Under the agreement, Tata Trusts will support the establishment and initial development of world-class academic infrastructure for the School, besides contributing to its strategic direction, vision-setting, policy formulation and governance oversight.

“India’s next phase of growth will require institutions that can be ranked amongst the best in the world. Our partnership with IIM Bangalore reflects that approach. Through the IIMB-Dorabji Tata School of Undergraduate Studies, we hope to support an institution that can set new benchmarks for undergraduate education and make a lasting contribution to the country,” Noel Tata said.

The MoU comes as IIMB’s inaugural undergraduate cohort received a record 12,000 applications for 80 seats. The first batch, comprising 40 students each in BSc (Hons) Data Sciences with a minor in Economics and BSc (Hons) Economics with a minor in Data Sciences, will commence on August 31, 2026.

Dr Shetty said the partnership with Tata Trusts would provide the School “with a strong foundation to develop an ambitious model of multidisciplinary education for a new generation of learners.” The School’s dedicated residential campus is being developed in the Jigani-Anekal area, about 23 km from IIMB’s Bannerghatta Road campus.

The campus will integrate academic facilities with modern student living and accessible design, while the philanthropic support will also strengthen research and academic capabilities in areas including Artificial Intelligence, data science, algorithmic design, Indian Knowledge Systems and applied business learning.
