Telangana elections: Opinion poll predicts neck-and-neck tussle between Cong, BRS

ABP CVoter opinion poll projects the Congress winning 48-60 seats and the BRS 43-55 seats in the 119-member assembly in Telangana

The Assembly elections in the southern state of Telangana will be a close tussle between the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Congress, according to a recent ABP CVoter Opinion Poll.

Telangana will go to polls on November 30, and the results will be announced on December 3.

The survey projects the Congress winning 48-60 seats and the BRS 43-55 seats in the 119-seat assembly. The BJP could end up winning only five to 11 seats, says the survey.

The survey says that both the Congress and the BJP will increase their vote shares at the cost of the BRS.

The opinion poll shows that the vote share of the Congress will be almost 39 per cent, which would be a substantial increase of 10.5 per cent compared to its performance in 2018.

The BRS is predicted to garner 37 per cent of the votes, a decline of 9.4 per cent from its landslide win in 2018, while the BJP, with an increase of 9.3 per cent, is projected to obtain 16 per cent of the votes.

The sample size for the survey was 11,928 confirmed voters, weighted to the known demographic profile of the state and spread across all the assembly constituencies in Telangana.

In the 2018 elections, the BRS (then Telangana Rashtra Samithi) registered a massive victory by winning 88 of the 119 seats. The Congress was a distant second with 19 seats, while the BJP managed to win only one seat.
