Rajasthan polls: Congress releases first list, fields Gehlot from Sardarpura, Pilot from Tonk

Speaker CP Joshi will contest from his Nathdwara seat, while PCC chief Govind Singh Dotasra has been fielded from Lachhmangarh.


The Congress on Saturday released its first list of 33 candidates for the Rajasthan assembly elections, fielding Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot from Sardarpura and his former deputy Sachin Pilot from Tonk.

Speaker CP Joshi will contest from his Nathdwara assembly seat, while the party’s state unit president, Govind Singh Dotasra, has been fielded from Lachhmangarh. Minister Harish Chaudhary will contest from Baytoo and Mamata Bhupesh from the Sikrai-SC seat.

Rajasthan’s Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Ashok Chandna will contest from Hindoli and Social Justice Minister Tikaram Jully from Alwar Rural. Rajasthan Congress general secretary Amit Chachan has been fielded from Nohar and state’s power minister Bhanwar Singh Bhati from Kolayat.

Congress has fielded several current MLAs from the same seats they won in the 2018 assembly elections. International gold medallist and politician Krishna Poonia is in the poll fray from Sadulpur, Manoj Meghwal from Sujangarh, Rita Choudhary from Mandawa, Indraj Singh Gurjar from Virat Nagar and Dr Archana Sharma from Malviya Nagar.

State secretary Pushpendra Bhardwaj has been fielded from Sanganer and Danish Abrar from Sawai Madhopur. The Congress is yet to declare candidates on a majority of seats and its Central Election Committee will meet on Sunday to finalise names for more seats.

The polls to the 200-member Rajasthan assembly will be held in a single phase on November 25.
