Adani overtakes Warren Buffet to become world’s 5th richest person


Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani has overtaken American investor Warren Buffet to become the fifth richest person in the world, according to the updated Forbes list on Monday (April 25).

Earlier this month, Adani was the 11th richest person in the world.

In the Forbes’ real-time billionaires list, Adani’s net worth is $122.2 billion while the sixth-placed Buffet’s wealth is $121.7 billion. The 59-year-old has business interests in infrastructure, commodities, power generation and transmission, and real estate.

Adani wants to be the world’s largest producer of green energy and has said he will invest upto $70 billion on renewable energy projects, according to Forbes.

Now, Adani is also the richest Indian. Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, with a net worth of $101.8 billion is the second richest in the country and the ninth richest in the world.

Last week, Adani met British Prime Minister Boris Johnson who was on a two-day official visit to India, and spoke about working with UK companies.

“Honoured to host @BorisJohnson, the first UK PM to visit Gujarat, at Adani HQ. Delighted to support climate & sustainability agenda with focus on renewables, green H2 & new energy. Will also work with UK companies to co-create defence & aerospace technologies. #AtmanirbharBharat,” he had tweeted on April 21.

Meanwhile, Tesla CEO Elon Musk continues to be the world’s richest person with a net worth of $269.7 billion. Amazon’s Executive Chairman Jeff Bezos is second with a wealth of $170.2 billion. Bezos is followed by Bernard Arnault and Family ($161.8 billion). Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is at the fifth spot with $130.2 billion.
