TTE arrested by railway police for filming woman inside restroom

A ticket examiner in the railways was arrested by the railway police in Tamil Nadu’s Arakkonam after he was caught filming a female passenger when she was using the restroom in the train during the journey.

A Times of India report said a 26-year-old TTE had reportedly used his mobile phone to record women inside the restroom on the train by placing the camera near the windowpane of the restroom.

According to reports, the Arakkonam police have booked the man under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 354-C (voyeurism) and 354-D (stalking), Section 4 (penalty for harassment of woman) of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act, and Sections 66-B (punishment for dishonestly receiving stolen communication device) and 67 (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the IT Act.

The incident reportedly took place when a woman, who was studying in a private engineering college in Coimbatore, was travelling to Chennai by train on Thursday morning. When she went to use the restroom, she noticed that someone was recording her through the window.

She immediately rushed out of the restroom and alerted other passengers. The other passengers confronted the TTE and forcibly took his phone from him, according to media reports. The phone, which was retrieved from the TTE, contained several other such videos of women using the restroom.

The TTE allegedly stood by the footboard of moving trains and recorded women inside restrooms by placing the camera near the window. The man is from Sooramangalam in Salem.

The female passenger filed a complaint with the railway police in the next station. He was arrested and taken into judicial custody.
