Thangamani becomes second TN minister to test positive for COVID
Electricity Minister and AIADMK leader P Thangamani has tested positive for COVID-19, a party spokesperson said on Wednesday (July 08). The Minister has been admitted to a private hospital for treatment.
Thangamani, who holds the portfolios of power, prohibition and excise, is also a senior AIADMK leader and party heavyweight in western Tamil Nadu. He is the second Minister to test positive after Higher Education Minister K P Anbalagan.
DMK president M K Stalin, on his twitter handle, said, he had spoken to Thangamani over the phone and wished him a speedy recovery. “Those in public service should be very cautious,” said Stalin, who is also the Leader of Opposition.

So far, eight other MLAs in the state had also tested positive for the disease. AIADMK legislators Amman K Arjunan (Coimbatore South), N Sathan Prabhakar (Paramakudi), K Palani (Sriperumbudur), and R Kumaraguru (Ulundurpet) had tested positive for COVID-19.
Also, DMK MLAs RT Arasu (Cheyyur), KS Masthan (Gingee), Vasanatham K Karthikeyan (Rishivandhiyam) had tested positive. Former Tirvallikkeni-Chepauk MLA J Anbazhagan, who had contracted the disease, died last month.
