At least seven people were killed and four injured in an explosion at a firecracker factory in Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore district, police said on Friday.

At least seven people were killed and four injured in an explosion at a firecracker factory in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore district, police said on Friday (September 4).

The owner of the factory too died in the blast, according to police.

Sources said the explosion completely damaged the entire building.

The fireworks factory is located in Kurungudi village of Cuddalore district’s Kattumannarkoil.

Investigation is underway at the site of the accident to probe the reason behind the explosion at the factory.

“It is a licenced unit near Kattumannarkoil. All of them were workers. Investigation is on into whether they were making country-made bombs and whether they were using only permitted explosives,” Cuddalore Superintendent of Police Sree Abhinav told NDTV.
