Another gruesome UP crime: Girl,11, dead after head smashed with brick

Days after a 19-year-old Dalit girl from Hathras died after she was brutally attacked, there is another shocking news from Uttar Pradesh. An 11-year-old scheduled caste girl has been found dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi near Varanasi after her head was smashed with bricks.

The local police said they have arrested two people for the murder. They have taken the 16-year-old son of one of the two men also into custody, they said. All the three are Dalits and are related. A case has been filed against them under Section 302 (for murder) of the IPC.

The police said the girl’s head was smashed with a brick. The attackers had previous enmity with the girl’s family, they said, although they don’t rule out this, too, being a rape-and-murder case.

According to the police, the girl had gone to attend nature’s call in the open around 12.30 pm and did not return home. Her brother found her body when he went out looking for her. The police were informed about the death around 3 pm. 

“It could be a case of rape because there appears to be no other motive to kill her. She had enmity with no one. But this will be confirmed only when the postmortem report is in,” NDTV quoted Ram Badan Singh, an officer of the local police, as saying.

The police said they were waiting for the autopsy report to confirm if she was sexually assaulted.

“The two families had previous enmity. The arrested have admitted that they killed the girl due to the enmity,” a statement issued by the police said.

The incident comes amid the outrage over the death of the girl from Hathras. After she died at the Safdarjung Hospital while undergoing treatment, the police are alleged to have cremated her without the family’s permission. They kept the family away from the cremation by locking them up.

The Congress, whose leader Rahul Gandhi was allegedly lathicharged by the police when he was going to meet the girl’s family on Thursday, has demanded the resignation of chief minister Yogi Adityanath after the Bhadohi incident came to light.
