Dale Steyn out of World Cup 2019 due to shoulder injury

South African pace bowler Dale Steyn departs from the ICC World Cup after failing to recover from a shoulder injury.

The fifth highest ODI wicket-taker of all time missed the first two matches and also withdrew from the Indian Premier League with the same issue.

Steyn underwent a surgery for this problem in 2016 and has been facing issues with his shoulder before and ever since. This recurring problem makes his cricketing future quiet foggy.

South Africa with two defeats from England and Bangladesh are about to face India tomorrow in the World Cup at the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton, without Dale Steyn.

In replacement, left arm quick Beuran Hendricks, who made his ODI debut in January this year against Pakistan, will join the squad.

Hendricks has had more success in T20 Internationals where he has 16 wickets at an average of 18.93. His career best T20 haul in January, also against Pakistan, was 4/14 at Centurion.

Hendricks’ ability to bowl with real pace, reaching 140kph at times, while also swinging the ball late can offer variation to the South African attack. But, with just one wicket from two matches, Hendricks may not make it to the playing eleven.
