With Monday’s World Cup match between South Africa and West Indies being abandoned due rain, the Proteas finally opened their account with one point credited to the both the countries.

The Proteas have lost all the three opening matches while the fourth one, against West Indies, got washed out. With West Indies’ middle-overs hitman Andre Russell declared unfit to play for the day, Faf du Plessis’s men had a chance to take wickets and restrict them from chasing the target. However, pacer Sheldon Cottrell reduced the South African team to 29-2 before rain stopped the play.

South Africa’s run towards its loss started from the very time of the toss. West Indies captain Jason Holder chose to bowl first after winning the toss.

Keeping in mind the overcast conditions and rain predictions, the decision was indeed wise. Proteas captain Faf du Plessis said that he would have chosen to bowl as well, observing the weather conditions.

This time even the flat wicket couldn’t save from dropping South Africa’s hopes to reach the World Cup semi-finals. The next match will decide the fate of the team.
