The construction works for the Metro shed project in Mumbai’s Aarey colony will not be stopped, the Supreme Court said on Monday (October 21).
Earlier, the felling of trees for making space for the construction had triggered a mass protest, following which, the top court had asked the government to not undertake any more axing of trees in the area.
On Monday, the case was heard by a bench of justices Arun Mishra and Deepak Gupta, who sought a status report with pictures on plantation, transplantation and felling of trees in the Aarey colony area of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appeared for BMC, assured the court that no further tree felling is being done in Aarey colony and complete status quo is being maintained following apex court’s last order.
The matter has been posted further hearing in November.
