Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said the police action on students protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act looked like the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919.
Addressing mediapersons in Mumbai on Tuesday, he said, “What happened at Jamia Millia Islamia is like Jallianwala Bagh. Students are like a ‘Yuva bomb.’ So, we request the central government to not do what they are doing, with students,” he said.
The comment from Thackeray, the leader of the BJP’s long-time ally, is the latest in the attack being mounted against the Centre for its high-handed handling of sporadic student’s protests across the country. (Now, the Shiv Sena is ruling Maharashtra in alliance with the Congress).
