Madras HC asks police charge-sheet H Raja for ‘abusing’ judiciary
The police will file a charge sheet against BJP national secretary H Raja in two months for ‘abusing’ the judiciary.
The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court issued the directive to the police in a case connected to the abuse of the judiciary and police officers during a Vinayaka Chathurthi procession in Pudukottai district in September 2018, the Hindustan Times reported.
The petition was filed by senior counsel S Doraisamy, who is also the vice-president of the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK).
Justice Jagadish Chandra asked the Thirumayam police in Pudukottai district to complete the investigation and file a charge sheet before the trial court.
Raja, known for vitriolic comments, made the comments on camera when the police prevented the setting up of a stage near a mosque citing a High Court order. The clamour for action against him rose as the video went viral.
On October 22, Raja tendered an apology before a bench comprising Justices CT Selvam and Nirmal Kumar.
