Indian opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan ruled out from the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 for three weeks due to a thumb fracture that he suffered during his match-winning century against Australia. This is a major blow out to team India ahead of its two crucial matches against New Zealand and Pakistan. His ton against Australia turned the tables of the match and allowed India to put up a target of 357 and win it.
SL split points for second successive time in WC after match washed out
Sri Lanka was forced to split points for the second successive time in the ongoing World Cup after their match against Bangladesh was called off without a ball being bowled due to persistent rain here Tuesday (June 11). Both the teams came into the match with one win from three matches and now each will get a point for the washout. Sri Lanka now has four points from as many games, while Bangladesh has three points from four games. After two defeats, Bangladesh was looking for a resurgence against Sri Lanka and now they will be wary of their semifinal chances.

HDK orders SIT probe into investment fraud ‘involving’ Cong leader
Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Tuesday (June 11) ordered a special investigation into the investment scam of I Monetary Advisor (IMA) Jewels in Bengaluru in which Shivajinagar Congress MLA Roshan Baig is allegedly involved. An audio clip from the IMA founder, Mohammed Mansoor Khan, indicating his intent to commit suicide, emerged on Monday (June 10). After failing to recover ₹400 crore (given as bribe and loan to politicians) from Roshan Baig and some more money from the government officials, the founder decided to commit suicide.
Mamata unveils Vidyasagar bust, statue
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday installed a new bust of 19th century social reformer Iswhar Chandra Vidyasagar at the college where an old one was vandalised during a roadshow of BJP president Amit Shah last month. She also unveiled an 8.5-ft pristine white fibre-glass statue of Vidyasagar in the courtyard of the college. After unveiling the bust near Hare school, which was then transferred to Vidyasagar College, Banerjee said altogether 10 people were killed in post-poll violence in the state and eight of them belonged to her party — the Trinamool Congress. The other two are BJP supporters, she said.
Director Pa Ranjith booked for comments on Rajaraja Chola
Thanjavur police in Tamil Nadu, on Tuesday (June 11), booked director Pa Ranjith for his comments on the Rajaraja Chola Empire. On June 5, while addressing a public meeting in Thirupanandhal village in Thanjavur, he rejected the common assumption that Rajaraja Chola’s period was indeed a golden era and called it a dark period. Five days after his comments, on Monday (June 10), BJP national secretary H Raja condemned Pa Ranjith for his views.

Wreckage of AN-32 found in Arunachal, confirms Indian Air Force
The wreckage of an IAF aircraft, which went missing eight days ago with 13 people on board, was found on Tuesday in Lipo locality of Arunachal Pradesh, the Indian Air Force said. The wreckage of the aircraft was spotted on Tuesday 16 Kms North of Lipo, the IAF tweeted. The Russian-origin AN-32 aircraft lost contact on the afternoon of June 3 after taking off from Jorhat in Assam for Menchuka advanced landing ground near the border with China.
MHC to TN govt: Explain difficulties in bringing Nalini to court
Hearing the plea of Nalini Sriharan, a life convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, the Madras High Court, on Tuesday (June 11), questioned the Tamil Nadu government about the difficulties in producing Nalini before the court. In response, the public prosecutor told the court that there were security risks in bringing her to the court. When Nalini’s counsel argued that it was the right of any prisoner to argue the case in person, the court took note of it and directed the public prosecutor to file a written reply in this regard. Thereafter the matter was posted for June 18.
Karnataka Congress divided over JSW land row
The JSW Steel land deal has put the Karnataka Congress in a fix. While Industries Minister KJ George was keen on giving clearance to the project, senior Congress leader HK Patil opposed the move and alleged the government was favouring the company by reducing the land price. In 2005-06, the Congress-JD(S) coalition government headed by N Dharam Singh approved the project proposal in a cabinet meeting. The government later signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to allot 2,000 acres of land at the rate of ₹90,000 per acre on a lease-and-sale agreement (to be sold after 10 years). This was in addition to 1,700 acres of land given for 10 years at ₹1.22 lakh per acre.
