According to the report, the Islamic State (IS) which claimed responsibility for the attack had served just as a front for the Haqqani network. Security agencies suspect Pakistan’s hand in the attack with an intention to drive India out of Afghanistan, the report added.
The attack was one of the deadliest on the minority Sikh community in Afghanistan. A heavily-armed gunman, who stormed his way into a gurdwara in Shor Bazar area around 07:45 am, was killed by Afghan security forces.

Around 80 people, including women and children, stranded inside the gurdwara were later rescued by the forces. The Union Ministry of External Affairs condemned the attack and conveyed its condolences to the families of the deceased.
Such cowardly attacks on the places of religious worship of the minority community, especially at this time of COVID 19 pandemic, is reflective of the diabolical mindset of the perpetrators and their backers, the ministry said in a press release.
