India’s COVID-19 tally of cases galloped past 38 lakh on Wednesday (September 2) with 53,495 new instances of the disease reported in a day, while the number of recoveries crossed 29 lakh, according to the data put out by covid19india.org at 9 pm.

The death toll climbed to 67,088 with 628 more fatalities reported as of 9 pm.

India has so far reported 38,19,603 cases of the viral disease, according to the data updated at 9 pm.

The total number of COVID-19 recoveries in the country has surged to 29,43,175, with 43,653 people recuperating from the disease over the last 24 hours.

There are 8,08,748 active cases in the country.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7 and went past 30 lakh on August 23.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 4,43,37,201 samples have been tested up to September 1, of which 10,12,367 were tested on Tuesday (September 1).

Andhra records over 10,000 COVID-19 cases for eighth day in a row

The ominous rise in COVID-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh continued as the state on Wednesday added 10,000 plus fresh infections for the eighth straight day, taking the count past the 4.5 lakh mark. As a five-figure daily increase seemed to have become the norm of late, the state recorded 10,392 fresh positive cases, 8,454 recoveries and 72 deaths in 24 hours.

The state’s tally of overall cases reached 4,55,531, while the total recoveries increased to 3,48,330. After a total of 4,125 deaths, a sum of 1,03,076 cases remained active in the state. The state has so far tested 38,43,550 samples at the rate of 71,977 per million population.

Tamil Nadu inches towards 50 lakh RT-PCR tests for COVID

Tamil Nadu on Wednesday reported 5,990 new COVID cases, taking the tally to 4,39,959, while 98 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 7,516. With the discharge of 5,891 patients from various hospitals, the cumulative recoveries and active cases stood at 3,80,063 and 52,380 respectively.

As many as 75,829 samples were tested and 49,64,141 specimens have been examined till date. There are 154 COVID labs, 64 in government and 90 in private facilities. Tamil Nadu does not use Rapid Antigen Diagnostic Tests and all tests are RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction) based.

Karnataka reports biggest single-day spike of 9,860 COVID-19 cases

Karnataka on Wednesday reported its biggest single day spike of over 9,800 new COVID-19 cases and 113 deaths, taking the infection count to 3,61,341 and the toll to 5,950. A total of 6,287 patients were discharged taking the overall recoveries to 2,60,913.

The state’s cumulative positive cases stood at 3,61,341, including 5,950 deaths and 2,60,913 discharges. There were 94,459 active cases and of them 93,708 in isolation at designated hospitals and stable, while 751 had been admitted to intensive care units (ICUs).

Delhi records 2,509 fresh COVID-19 cases, highest daily spike in nearly 2 months

The national capital on Wednesday recorded 2,509 fresh COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day spike in nearly two months, taking the tally to over 1.79 lakh, while the death toll mounted to 4,481.

Nineteen fatalities have been recorded in the last 24 hours. The death toll from the coronavirus infection has risen to 4,481 and the total number of cases has climbed to 1,79,569. The number of active cases in the city rose to 16,502 on Wednesday from 15,870 the previous day.

The last time Delhi recorded more than 2,500 fresh cases was on July 3 (2,520 cases).

Kerala reports 1,547 new COVID-19 cases, seven deaths

Kerala on Wednesday reported 1,547 new COVID-19 cases taking the infection count in the state to 78,071, while the death toll has crossed the 300 mark with seven more fatalities. State Health Minister K K Shailaja said the death toll in the state has gone up to 305 with the addition of the fatalities on Wednesday.

At least 2,129 people were discharged from hospital on Wednesday taking the total cured in the state to 55,782,” the minister said. Currently 21,923 people are under treatment in the state and at least 23,850 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
