COVID-19: Tamil Nadu reports highest single-day spike of 805 cases

Tamil Nadu reported its highest single-day spike of 805 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday besides seven new deaths due to the infection, the state government has said. The state's infection count now stands at 17,082 cases, including 118 fatalities.

Tamil Nadu reported its highest single-day spike of 805 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday (May 25) besides seven new deaths due to the infection, the state government has said. The state’s infection count now stands at 17,082 cases, including 118 fatalities.

State capital Chennai continued to lead in the number of positive cases with 549 recorded on Monday, said State Health Minister C Vijayabaskar. The number of recoveries also was significant at 407, constituting over half of the people who turned positive on Monday.

The state, meanwhile, resumed its commercial passenger flight operations on Monday. A Delhi-bound IndiGo flight carrying 116 passengers was the first to be operated from the Chennai airport on Monday when the country resumed domestic air services after two months of COVID-19 lockdown.
