The Mumbai Police have increased security at several religious places and other crowded areas after receiving an alert from central intelligence agencies about a possible terror threat.

Police personnel have also been instructed to conduct “mock drills” at some places, said some sources.

The Deputy Commissioners of Police in the city have been asked to be extra alert in their respective zones as far as security is concerned.

The temples in the country’s financial capital have been told to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity in the vicinity and to remain alert as a precautionary measure.

On Friday (September 27), the police conducted a mock drill in the congested Crawford market area. Two famous religious sites are in this locality. The officials, however, said they were carrying out the drill in anticipation of the festival season.

Mumbai is gearing up to celebrate the festivals of Durga Puja, Dussehra, and Diwali during the coming weeks.
