A day after clinching a silver medal in steeplechase, Parul Chaudhary on Tuesday (October 3) won India its 14th gold medal in the Asian Games 2023 with her sensational triumph in 5000m race.

In a stunning late burst, Parul came through in the last 30 meters to overtake her Japanese rival Hironaka to win the gold for the country.

Similarly, India's Annu Rani made history on Tuesday as she clinched the gold medal for the country in the women’s javelin throw final at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Rani finished in top with her season's best throw of 62.92 metres. She is the first Indian woman to win a gold in javelin at the Asian Games. Rani’s maiden gold is India’s 15th at these continental Games in China.

India currently occupies the fourth position on the medals tally with 15 gold, 26 silver and 28 bronze.



Earlier, Indian boxer Preeti Pawar faced a tough challenge in the women's 54kg semi-final at the Asian Games 2023, losing 5:0 on points to the defending champion Chang Yuan of China on Tuesday (October 3). Despite her commendable efforts, Pawar settled for a bronze medal, making it India's second boxing bronze at the Hangzhou Asian Games.

Star Indian shuttlers HS Prannoy and PV Sindhu progressed to the men’s and women’s singles pre-quarterfinals with straight-game wins over their respective opponents in badminton.

In archery, Jyothi Surekha Vennam used all her experience to prevail over her teammate Aditi Swami to advance to the women’s compound individual final.


In men’s cricket, Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed a blazing hundred to defeat Nepal in the quarterfinal. India also stormed into the semifinals of women’s hockey with a 13-0 drubbing of Hong Kong in their final pool match.

In a disappointment, the Indian men’s team crashed out of the Sepaktakraw quadrant event. But the men’s kabaddi team, who are a record seven-time champions, began their campaign with an emphatic 55-18 win over Bangladesh in a group fixture.

The Indian women's kabaddi team delivered a dominant performance, securing a convincing 56-23 victory against the Republic of Korea in their Group A match at the Asian Games 2023. Pooja Hathwala and Pushpa emerged as the top raiders for India, both scoring a super 10, while captain Ritu Negi stood out as the star defender, inflicting five all-outs on the opposition. Interestingly, the Korean raiders focused on bonus points rather than touch points in their offensive strategy.

In their opening match on Monday, India had a 34-34 draw against Chinese Taipei. The two-time champions, India, are set to face Thailand, the 2010 Asian Games runners-up, in their final group match tomorrow at 1:30 PM IST.
