Kangana Ranaut pans ‘Tejasvi Surya’ for eating fish; Tejashwi Yadav reacts

Known for making off-the-cuff remarks, Bollywood actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut made a gaffe while slamming Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav for eating fish during Navaratri. Taking a swipe at Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Tejashwi Yadav, and Akhilesh Yadav in her election rally, she mistakenly referred to the RJD leader as Tejasvi Surya, her fellow party leader and BJP MP from Bengaluru South.

Kangana was speaking in an election meeting on Saturday (May 4) in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi constituency, from where she is seeking election to the Lok Sabha on a BJP ticket.

“On the other hand, there are leaders who don’t have any character or culture. They don’t know where to go. There's a party of spoilt princes, whether it's Rahul Gandhi who wants to grow potatoes on the Moon or it's Tejasvi Surya who indulges in hooliganism and proudly eats fish... or it's Akhilesh Yadav who talks nonsense in his own style," she is heard saying in a video clip of her poll speech.

The RJD leader had on April 9 posted a video of savouring a fish delicacy after a hard day of campaigning. The entire BJP leadership criticised him for eating fish on the eve of Navaratri in their poll rallies.

“Those who do not understand the language of this country and those who do not understand its culture, how can they run this country?" Ranaut asked while referring to late Rajiv Gandhi, before making her now famous Tejasvi Surya comment.

The video clip has since gone viral with netizens going berserk on her goof-up.

Not to be left behind, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav also took a pot shot at the BJP leader. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, the former Bihar deputy chief minister asked. “Ye motarama kaun hai (Who is this lady)?” He also shared the video clip.

This is not the first time the Bollywood actor has made such remarks. She hit the headlines in November 2021 when she unabashedly claimed what India got in 1947 as independence was “bheekh” (alms) and the real freedom came only in 2014.

Voting for all the four parliamentary seats of Himachal Pradesh including Mandi will take place on June 4. Ranaut is pitted against Vikramaditya Singh, son of former chief minister Virbhadra Singh and Himachal Congress chief Pratibha Singh.
