Hyundai delivers 5,600 cars, receives 9,000 bookings in 22 days

The COVID-19 lockdown has not stopped Indians from buying cars as South Korean automaker Hyundai has received around 9,000 bookings since it began reopening showrooms on May 4.
Hyundai, in a statement on Tuesday (May 26), said it had delivered 5,600 new cars and had serviced around one lakh vehicles in the last 22 days. The company said that 806 showrooms, including dealerships and rural sales outlets, and 863 workshops were open across the country.
Most customers have booked the new varients of Creta and Verna, the company said. Hyundai had stopped both sales and services after a nationwide lockdown was announced on March 24 to contain the spread of COVID-19.

On May 8, the company had resumed manufacturing vehicles at its plant in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai. It also rolled out 200 cars on the first day of the restart of production at the plant and claimed that staff had been maintaining social distancing.
However, the company on May 24 announced that three of its employees at the plant had tested positive for the disease. They had shown mild symptoms of cough and cold, and were later given medical attention.
Only a dar earlier, Maruti Suzuki India had announced that an employee at its manufacturing plant in Haryana’s Manesar had tested positive for COVID-19.
