Yediyurappa’s office-residence shut after staff's kin tests COVID positive


Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa’s office-cum-residence at ‘Krishna’ on Kumarakrupa Road remained shut on Friday (June 19), after the husband of a police constable posted there had tested a positive for COVID-19.

Officials said the CM was out of risk and they were sanitising the entire premises, which would be shut for three days. “The premises will be reopened on Monday,” a civic body official said.

The development comes as eight police personnel tested positive for the disease on Thursday (June 18). Besides, five other personnel attached to two other nearby police stations tested positive and one had succumbed to the disease last Sunday (June 14).

Meanwhile, Vikasa Soudha, which houses many administrative offices, remained shut on Thursday and Friday after a staff of the Food and Civil Supplies Department tested positive for COVID-19, earlier this week. Several departments allowed their staff to work from home.

Similarly, the office of the Bengaluru Railway Division was shut on Friday after an employee tested positive for the disease.

“Consequent to an employee of SBC Division found COVID positive and the same communicated to divisional administration on June 18, it is informed that the Divisional Office will be closed on June 19 for disinfection,” railway divisional office in Bengaluru said.

With this, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state rose to 7,734 on June 18.
