A day after the charred body of a 27-year-old woman was found near an overpass at Shadnagar, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, Cyberabad police on Friday (November 29) have taken four people in custody including prime accused Mohammed Pasha, a lorry driver, reports said.
Police suspect the woman, who is a veterinary doctor, was raped and murdered, before being set ablaze. She had gone missing on Wednesday (November 27) while on her way to home to Hyderabad, from Gachilbowli.
The National Commission of Women (NCW) which took cognizance of the incident on Friday morning, will be sending a member to take up the matter with the police.
NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma said, in a tweet, that the NCW wont “leave any stone unturned” till these perpetrators get the punishment they deserve.
Police say that the vet who was left stranded at Shamshabad after her two-wheeler got punctured on Wednesday evening, was reportedly offered help by a few men. While talking to her sister on the phone at around 9.45 pm, she had told her sister that the men had taken her bike to a mechanic.
She had also told her sister that she was scared by a few truck drivers standing nearby. Bhavya had asked her to abandon the bike and come to the nearest toll plaza from where she will pick her up. But, the veterinarian’s phone was switched off when her sister tried contacting her after that.
The family had later filed a missing complaint at 11.30 pm. the female veterinarian’s charred body was spotted by a milkman at Shadnagar, 30 km from Shamshadbad, the next morning.
Police suspect the people who had offered help to the woman may have had a hand in her rape and murder.
The victim’s family identified her with the help of a locket she was wearing.
Police have formed 10 teams to arrest the culprits. The role of two truck drivers is being suspected in the crime. The police are also scanning CCTV footage from the toll plaza.
