NIA raids four places in Tamil Nadu over alleged terror links


NIA sleuths from Cochin carried out searches at four places in Tamil Nadu, including two in Chennai, on Saturday in connection with alleged terror links in the state.

“There have been cases of foreign funding to certain people in Tamil Nadu. We are conducting inquiries in connection with that as well,” a source said.

In Chennai, the agency raided the premises of Wahadat Islam Hind organisation and it’s founder’s house in Mannady.

Apart from Chennai, the agency also raided the premises of two men in Nagapattinam for links with banned outfits.

The search, which started at around 7 am and concluded around 11, was based on specific inputs about alleged links with banned outfits.

Though there were unconfirmed reports that the raids were in connection with their links to al-Qaeda, sources privy to the investigation told The Federal that the raids were related to an ISIS case.

However, there is no official word from the agency about the raids. The agency sleuths are said to be have seized digital devices. Four persons were also being questioned after the raid.

Based on their revelations, the agency may also conduct searches in other places on Sunday, the sources said.
