Actor Rajinikanth, who lauded the Centre for abrogating Article 370 that granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, likened Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Krishna and Arjuna in the epic Mahabharata, while speaking at a book release function held at Kalaivanar Arangam here on Sunday (August 11).
A book titled ‘Listening, Learning and Leading’ chronicling the two years in the office of vice president M Venkaiah Naidu was released by Shah at the event. The book has glimpses of Naidu’s 330 public engagements in all the states and Union Territories of the country during the last two years.
Addressing the gathering, Rajinikanth conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to Amit Shah for his “Mission Kashmir” operation. “Now, people came to know that he is Amit Shah,” said Rajinikanth who made an appearance as a ‘surprise guest’ for the audience, at the event, as his name wasn’t there in the initial invite.
Describing the Modi-Shah pair as Krishna and Arjuna, Rajinikanth said, “We don’t know who Krishna is and who is Arjuna. Only they know it.”
Answering questions on why the event was organized in Chennai, Naidu said he wanted his book to be released in the southern part of the country. Stating that due importance should be given to the mother tongue, Naidu also stressed on the importance of learning multiple languages. “No language should be opposed. At the same no language should be thrust. But, if you don’t learn other languages, you will be deprived.” he said
Stating that there were proposals from Tamil Nadu to keep Tamil as one of the languages in other states, Naidu said, “Yes. But, in your state, other languages should also be allowed.”
The function hosted by information and broadcasting minister Prakash Javadekar was also attended by chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Governor Banwarilal Purohit were also present at the event.
In a bold move, the Centre last week revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and announced it would be split it into two union territories — Ladakh, and Jammu and Kashmir, with the bills in this regard being passed by the Parliament.
